Crossing the road

When you cross the road, always choose the safest place to stop and cross. Keeping in mind that the safest route may not always be the fastest route. Wherever possible, cross at a pedestrian crossing or traffic signal. It can be helpful to pre-plan your route and where you will cross the road to avoid other unsafe situations, for example the footpath ending or a barking dog.

Stop back from the kerb and road.

Look in all directions for traffic.

Listen for traffic.

Think about when it is safe to cross. When the road is clear, walk straight and quickly across the road.
